Safeguarding and Child Protection
We take our responsibility for safeguarding children very seriously and we ask that you support us in carrying out this important role, our concern is always for the safety and wellbeing of all children. At nursery, we have a named Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputy DSL’s so that there is always a member of staff with this knowledge available. We also work in partnership with other agencies such as health, education and social care.
If we have concerns that a child is suffering from abuse, we have a legal duty to make a referral to social care, following the reporting process for the area in which the child lives. We will always inform parents and carers of any action being taken and work with you where possible, unless it is considered that by raising our concern with you this may put the child or staff member at risk.
As part of the nursery’s inclusive philosophy,
we take account of any additional needs that a child may have. The nursery works in partnership with parents, carers, health care professionals, education and social care to ensure that the nursery best meets the needs of each individual child. We have a Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator who assists staff in preparing for meeting children’s needs.
We have Health and Safety Officers who carry out extra risk assessments to ensure the building is secure and safe. All of our staff are paediatric first aid trained, and have received food hygiene, infection and prevention training, and regular safeguarding training.
Staff photographs are displayed together with their role and main qualifications. All Sneakers staff also wear a uniform for easy recognition.
All staff at Little Sneakers have current DBS checks and all staff receives regular training around child protection issues.
Policies and Procedures
Little Sneakers recognise that a successful nursery requires a combination of skilled and caring people with efficient and effective key policies. We acknowledge that our key policies and procedures are fundamental to ensuring we always maintain a quality setting. Within nursery we have a folder available to all our families which contains all our policies and procedures which govern the way we operate our nursery, and these will be openly available to parents and Ofsted alike. Some are are also displayed on our parent information board.
Our policies include, health and safety, equal opportunities, child behaviour, parent partnership, staffing, nursery operations, nursery admissions, complaints procedure and Safeguarding and Child Protection.
Policies and procedures are at the heart of everything we do and for that reason they must be maintained and measured. Our regular monitoring and staff training programmes will ensure that our processes are always kept to the highest standards.
Policy content is provided by management and staff, and by referring to third party organisations such as the NDNA, and Wirehouse, who keep a library of best practice documents. Parents and carers are invited to contribute to our policies, and we send out regular surveys inviting comment and feedback.
